What is interesting here is that if a branch (believers) is not bearing fruit, God will take it away and every branch that He prunes is pruned so that it will bear more fruit. John 15:2 “Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” The Father is the Vinedresser and Jesus is the vine. The identity of the Vinedresser is given in the first verse. John 15:1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.” If we are not, we will not produce fruit for no fruit has ever been produced that has not been attached to the branch. Everything Jesus taught was beneficial to believers but this teaching is especially important because it gives us evidence to the fact that we are His and that we are abiding in Him. It is helpful to break down and comment on these verses to see exactly what Jesus was telling us. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”

If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you.

By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. John 15: 1-11 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Israel was to be a witness to the pagan nations that surrounded her and she was supposed to produce fruit, or evidence, that faithfulness and obedience to God would produce good fruit and would be a blessing to all that are attached to this Vine.
